Who We Are
LSP stands for
Local Strategic Partnership
Local because we operate with the local people, groups and organisations in Castle Point to bring benefits directly to the people who live and work in the Castle Point area.
Strategic because we aim to have a coherent plan for the whole of the area, and to provide a service which enables people to change and develop their area.
Partnership because we both work together with individuals and organisations to develop strategies and initiatives and help to put individuals and organisations in touch with each other so that they can work together.
Community Strategies and Local Strategic Partnerships were originally introduced by the Local Government Act 2000. This Act has brought together at a local level the different parts of the public sector, as well as representatives from the private, business, community and voluntary sectors, so that different initiatives and services support each other to work together. The LSP brings these groups together to discuss issues and to effect changes in Castle Point to make sure that it is a great place to live.
In 2003 our Local Strategic Partnership was established and our first Community Strategy was published.
‘Sustainable’ Community Strategies (SCS’s) are now required by Government and this means that more emphasis is placed on the evidence of local needs. In particular the Sustainable Community Strategy sets the context for the Council’s Local Development Framework: the overall spatial development strategy for the Borough, which contains the planning policies for all land in the Borough.
