Community Information Event

On Friday 10th July 2009 the Castle Point Local Strategic Partnership held its Community Information Event at Runnymede Hall. The LSP holds two Community Information Events a year, one in January at The Paddocks on Canvey Island, and one in July at Runnymede.

The event, introduced by Councillor Pam Challis the Chair of the LSP and Leader of Castle Point Borough Council, was well attended by over 150 members of the public and partners of the Castle Point LSP. People who came enjoyed presentations, with opportunity to ask questions on a variety of topics, to view stalls provided by the LSP, and enjoy a chat over lunch.

The schedule was very busy with presentations and discussions centred around the aims of the six main groups:

  • Community Safety (led by Councillor Tony Belford of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership)
  • Volunteering, Community Support and Clubs (led by Barry McCarthy and Dawn Wale of the Stronger Communities Group)
  • Education, Employment and Regeneration (led by Mark Evershed and Terry Taber of the Education Skills and Business Group)
  • Staying Healthy (led by Ray Parker of the Health and Wellbeing Partnership and Karen Lawrie of the Community Sports Network)
  • Keeping the Borough Clean and Green (led by Craig Watts and Tim Read of the Sustainability Group)
  • Children and Young People (led by staff and parents from Canvey Island Children’s Centre, part of the Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership)

Highlights of the event included an ‘Armchair Exercise’ class led by Karen Lawrie the Active Living Co-ordinator based at the Castle Point Association of Voluntary Services (CAVS).

Attendees were also asked to complete feedback forms after the event and the views expressed will be taken into account when planning the July 2010 event. Over 80% of people surveyed said that they enjoyed the event and found it beneficial. We were very pleased with the tremendous response we received and would like to thank our partners and members of the public who helped to make the event such a success.

The next Community Information Event will take place in January 2010 and will take a different format with a greater emphasis on the wide range of services provided by the many partners of the LSP and the opportunity for members of the public to view stalls and chat to providers.
